Mr. James Brunet is an attorney admitted to practice in Florida, an active duty police officer with a large metropolitan Florida police department and a certified Analytic Interviewing instructor.
James earned his Juris Doctor degree with high honors in 2004 from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida. While in law school, James was an active member of the Moot Court and Law Review, and served as a teaching assistant for several first and second year courses. James has been involved with practice in several areas of law including civil, criminal, and appellate, and is presently serving as the Assistant Police Legal Advisor at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. James earned his BA with honors from the University of North Florida, with a dual major in Criminal Justice and Political Science, and has completed all the didactic course work for a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at the same institution.
Additionally, James is a certified police officer in the state of Florida, has completed numerous advanced law enforcement training courses, has completed the Police Legal Advisor's Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia, and recently became certified to teach Analytic Interviewing after attending the Institute of Analytic Interviewing instructor's course in early 2010.
In addition to being an attorney, James is also an active duty police officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office ("JSO"). He has been a member of the JSO for 24 years, beginning his career as a reserve police officer while stationed in Jacksonville with the United States Navy, leading to his present position as a member of the Sheriff's executive staff in the Legal Unit. During his many years with the JSO, James has worked in a variety of assignments, including the legal unit, patrol, narcotics and vice, investigations, undercover and surveillance, bicycle patrol, aviation, and as a member of the police scuba team. James's diverse law enforcement career and his educational background have afforded him many opportunities to both hone and teach his interviewing and rapport-building skills.
James has taught a number of courses and given many presentations on various topics, and he recently attained his Florida law enforcement instructor's certificate. James routinely teaches at the JSO Police Academy and has become adept at tailoring his message to his audience. As one recent student commented, James' instruction was "the most relevant" she has had. James's real-world, street experience combined with his academic achievement and intellectual curiosity give him a unique perspective and the ability to relate well to diverse groups. James has also formed a company called "The Whole Truth" through which he will teach Analytic Interviewing and a testimonial skills course, "True Testimony" he developed for police officers and other professionals who must routinely testify in court or depositions.
